Position Title: Security Guard
Department: Security Services
Reporting to: Shift Security Supervisors
Type of Employment/Hours of Work: Part-time - Up to thirty-five to forty hours per week (hours may vary based on need). Must be available to work day shifts (0730 HRS1930 HRS) and / or evening / night shifts (1930 HRS-0730 HRS)
Rate of Pay: $18-$20 per hour
Major Duties:
1.Provide exceptional customer service and sustain effective relationships with clients and patrons of the Harbourfront Centre.
2. Conduct proactive patrols to ensure safety and address policy breaches and escalate any concerns to the Security Supervisor.
3.Attend and investigate security alarms and emergencies in a timely and professional manner
4. Access control and CCTV monitoring for the entire facility.
5. De-escalate crisis situations, provide support and liaise with emergency personnel including Police, Fire and Paramedic resources.
6. Investigates all disturbances on the property including - but not limited to - trespass, theft, fire/ intruder alarms, missing persons, and determines the necessary response.
7.Write clear and detailed reports including incident, emergency, liability, and day-to day reports
8. Exercise crowd control and evict trespassers.
9.Provide first aid and medical response when required to any person(s).
10.Utilize two-way radios and computer applications to communicate site activities.
11.Handle Lost & Found items and inquires.
12.Answer inquiries from the public politely and professionally.
13. Completes their personal employee memo book, recording incidents and security activities while on shift. As directed, maintains log of security activities for insurance / legal purposes when required.
14. Employs use of force techniques and strategies in accordance with training and company policy as required during shift.
15.Performs other administrative and building support duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Remain calm and effectively perform in emergency situations.
2. Able to detect problems and report information to appropriate personnel.
3.Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service focused.
4.Able to handle confidential information with a high amount of discretion.
5. Ability to work in a fast-paced and flexible environment while maintaining the utmost professionalism.
6. Able to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
7. Moderate physical activity, standing and walking for long periods of time including in outdoor weather conditions.
8. Knowledge of the Trespass to Property Act and Arrest Procedures.
9. Proficient in English (verbal and written) communication skills, Proficiency in French is considered an asset.
10. Familiarity with the Occupation Health & Safety Act is considered an asset.
Prerequisites:
1.Prior experience in a Security Guard capacity.
2. Ontario driver’s license with clean abstract.
3.Valid emergency and/ or standard first aid/CPR certification.
4. Valid certification of provincial standards for Use of Force (in handcuff and baton) desired.
5.Strong report writing skills.
6. Operational knowledge and working understanding of alarm receivers and servers preferred.
Working Conditions:
1. May contain some hazardous and potentially dangerous situations related to securing Harbourfront Centre.
2. Job involves working outside in varying weather conditions and some working in isolated areas.
3. Job involves working in full uniform including but not limited to winter jacket, uniform shirt, pants, polishable black boots.
4. Job involves working a variety of shifts, must be available to work evenings, nights, weekends, dayshifts, and statutory holidays.
